Answers to Your Most Common Questions
Yes. The SKIES program is designed for nationwide impact. As long as your incubator, accelerator, or bootcamp is legally registered in Kenya and has been operational for at least two years, you are eligible. We actively encourage applications from intermediaries based in all 47 counties to ensure a broad geographical distribution of tech skills.
Unlike traditional grants, SKIES funding is disbursed upon the achievement of specific, pre-agreed milestones. These might include the number of startups successfully incubated, the percentage of students completing a bootcamp, or successful industry placements. This model ensures that funds are directly tied to the growth and quality of the Kenyan innovation ecosystem.
Absolutely. SKIES has a strong focus on gender inclusivity. For Track 1 (Intermediaries), we look for a 50% presence of women in management and staff. For Track 2 (Students), a significant portion of our tuition subsidies and recruitment efforts is dedicated to ensuring women are represented in high-level tech fields like Cybersecurity and Software Engineering.
We have an established Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM). Stakeholders can submit concerns or complaints through our dedicated GRM form available on the website 24/7. Every submission is registered, investigated, and addressed through a fair and structured process to ensure transparency and accountability.
The goal of SKIES is long-term sustainability. The technical assistance provided is designed to help intermediaries refine their business models so they can continue to thrive independently. Additionally, through the Industry-Startup Linkage Program, we help create permanent bridges between startups and traditional industry players for ongoing commercial opportunities.
While we do not "guarantee" placement, the program is built on Industry Linkage. We work with partners like Kenya Power and Milly Fruits to ensure students solve real-life corporate challenges during their training. This hands-on experience, combined with our network of industry partners, significantly increases the employability and market-readiness of every graduate.
